J:Kenzo’s ‘Skatta’ is a glorious ode to ’90s jungle

Dancehall vocal cut-ups and unrelenting breaks from the Artikal Music boss.

J:Kenzo is a producer you should be more than familiar with by now. Having released on a host of revered UK labels since the turn of the decade – including Metalheadz, Tempa and Exit Records – he’s now making his first appearance on Om Unit’s Cosmic Bridge imprint. With a number of standout records over the past year from the likes of Danny Scrilla and Hyp mix contributor Neuropol, as well as Om Unit’s own Torchlight series, Cosmic Bridge are keeping up the heat in 2016 with J:Kenzo’s Skatta/Alight 12″, which drops April 1.

Maintaining J:Kenzo’s proclivity for the fast tempos and tough drum workouts he first discovered as a teenager, Skatta/Alight sees the UK producer mould a nostalgic ’90s jungle template with decidedly forward facing sensibilities, with J:Kenzo himself stating: “This release is my ode to 1990s jungle”. A side ‘Skatta’, which we’re previewing today, takes razor-sharp bass and high-octane breaks with smatterings of dancehall vocal chops for a raucous voyage through the sweatiest pits of the dance floor. Fasten your seat belts and press play…

Skatta/Alight is out April 1 on Cosmic Bridge. Pre-order it here.
