First Listen: Ment – ‘A Kind Of Us’ (Troy Gunner Remix)

After a series of successful releases over the last year rising Bristol based label Honey Glazed Records step up for their next EP, calling upon local producer Ment to mark his second outing on the imprint.

A Kind Of Us sees Ment again display his knack for building luscious grooves with the dance floor in mind, with two cuts of charming house that see signature traits of warm synths and glowing harmonies utilised to the fullest. Requested on remix duties are an equal measure of talent, with the funky 303 jams of fellow label-goer Ramu and the lo-fi romance of Ross From Friends all providing alternative edits.

Today we premiere Troy Gunner’s remix of the title track. Fresh from a collaborative release on Monki’s Zoo Music, Troy takes the original into much darker terrain, transforming vocal cuts into broken fragments whilst driving the pressure with distorted subs and flickering percussion. The mid way point calls upon a breakdown, where atmospheric pads take command and momentarily shine light on the darkness before being hastily swept under the carpet for more serious business.

A Kind Of Us is released via Honey Glazed Records on 17th October, pre-order a vinyl copy from Bandcamp.
