We’ve got an exclusive first listen of the new remix EP from British House superstar Maya Jane Coles.
On side to rework Coles’ 2011 ‘Don’t Put Me In Your Box’ EP are the stellar trio of Bonobo, Kowton and Dark Sky. Simon ‘Bonobo’ Green lightens the mood of ‘Something In The Air’, combining his signature yearning atmospherics to get a subtle euphoria out of the track. Given a nice bounce from Green’s retooling of the percussion, his remix is a strong addition to his already bursting treasure trove of after-hours gold.
Livity Sound co-founder Kowton drags the groove of ‘Parallel Worlds’ into the middle of a blackened warehouse via some typically heavy swathes of distortion on the kick. Things are kept minimal throughout, as the Bristolian gets Coles’ original down the bare essentials needed to mash up the dance.
Rounding off the package are London production team Dark Sky who also remix ‘Something In The Air’. Where Bonobo’s version kept things light, Dark Sky instead root the track in a propulsive low end groove, whilst keeping the looping pads of Coles’ original just slightly in the background. Following on from a 2013 that saw them drop releases on Tectonic and Mister Saturday Night, this rework is further proof of Dark Sky’s impressive versatility.
Check out extended clips of all three remixes below before they’re released digitally on Hypercolour next Monday 24th February. Order the vinyl HERE, digital release to follow very soon.
