We only heard about Iglooghost a few months ago but he’s already featured on Hyponik here, there and everywhere. The teenage Irish lad from Dorset is a real prospect in the world of glitchy instrumental Hip-Hip, something that he’s demonstrated pretty consistently on his Bandcamp page and also on beats for Chi-City rapper Milo and former Das Racist member Kool A.D – in fact Milo announced in a recent tweet that Iglooghost has produced all of his next album.
Next Monday (27th January) the purveyors of “21st Century Beat Music”, aka Berlin label Error Broadcast, will release his instrumental debut entitled the ‘Treetunnels’ EP. This certainly is modern day beat music, fusing elements of classic boom-bap and Dilla with sawing melodies and warming synth swells – all delivered avec that raw, lo-fi aesthetic.
The vibrant LA beat scene of the Teens laid the foundation for a global generation of bedroom producers to prosper via the Internet’s various distribution portals, but it takes a lot to cut through the noise and establish yourself as a producer in the modern world of beat making – Iglooghost seems to have what it takes. This is a sentiment echoed by Brainfeeder producer and engineer Matthewdavid who got in touch to offer his mastering services to ‘Treetunnels’ and has also contributed a striking beat-less take on opener ‘Yellow Fours’ that is an all encompassing wash of crystalline textures.
The record consists of 16 tracks featuring vocals from Kae, the aforementioned Milo, Riley Lake and jitwam and with bonus remixes (only available on the full download and cassette) coming from by Riley Lake, Matthewdavid, Greyhat, and Mr. Yote. Iglooghost’s ‘Treetunnels’ EP is out January 27 on Error Broadcast, stream exclusively via Hyponik below.
