London producer Ahadadream (Ahad Elley) gifts us with the first cut from his new EP.
Having launched his own label More Time Records earlier this year with a joint EP from garage don Zed Bias and the mysterious SNØW – supposedly an alias for another well-known producer – it’s Ahad’s own production talents that are now coming to the fore, with his bangin’ Movements EP due out on the label later this month.
While this marks his debut proper, he’s been throwing out promising Soundcloud loosies for a while now, as well a pair of tracks for Four40 Records and Roska’s RKS imprint. He’s also a thoroughly accomplished DJ – anyone who’s caught him in the club or locked into one of his monthly Radar sets will know what I’m talking about.
Anyway, we’re very happy to have the first premiere from Movements for you, straight off the presses. ‘Dhol’ is one of the heaviest Funky tracks I’ve heard in a hot minute. The title references a type of double-headed drum, itself a reference to Ahad’s Pakistani heritage. And, yeah, the drums on this track. Fucking hell. They swagger into a hypnotic rhythm before a Swamp 81-esque bassline steamrollers into the mix. Catch this one doing damage on a dancefloor in your town.
Movements is out 23rd May on More Time Records.
