Everybody In The Place: Hatcha

An insightful exchange with the patron saint of Dubstep.

No one DJ or indeed producer can claim sole credit for Dubstep, but when the history of the genre gets told, no person ever has, or ever will, have as much influence as Terry Leonard aka Hatcha. Talking to him in a Turkish restaurant next door to the fabric night club in London, we traced his deep Croydon roots – from DJing at raves when he’d barely started secondary school, becoming buyer at the legendary Big Apple Records and coining the term Dubstep, it’s no overstatement to say the entire genre bares his stamp.
