If you’re not familiar with the Far Out Monster Disco Orchestra, consider this your long overdue introduction.
FOMDO are a Brazilian disco super group, brought together by the Far Out Recordings label and featuring the arrangements of Arthur Verocai and the late José Roberto Bertrami of Azymuth. Their first album came out in 2014, and the second instalment is well on its way.
The project has also sparked some incredible remixes from the likes of Theo Parrish, Mark E and John Morales. The latest 12″ in the series features Dego, Andrés and Ben Hauke’s versions of the as yet unreleased ‘Where Do We Go From Here?’
Ben Hauke is a young Lewisham-based producer who’s loosely associated with the 22a collective. He’s released on labels such as Melodica Recordings and Hear Other Sounds, and also has previous form with Far Out, having remixed Sean Khan’s ‘Things To Say’.
Hauke’s broken house mix of ‘Where Do We Go From Here?’ shifts the disco pulse to a loose, laid-back, shuffling groove. From warm synths and jazz bar piano to skipping drums and that gorgeous soul-piercing vocal, he’s constantly shifting the spotlight between different elements, allowing each of them their chance to shine. Wonderfully soothing stuff.
You can listen to Ben Hauke’s remix below. And hey, why not catch him doing his thing next month at Far Out Sunday Sessions?
