DINOS CHAPMAN at FABRIC
LUFTBOBLER LIVE AV SHOW (UK DEBUT)
Heimlich (Live), D Js Jarvis Cocker & Steve Mackey, Trevor Jackson (Metal Dance) & Nick Williams (Phonica Records)
Following an acclaimed first show at Sonar 2013, Dinos Chapman is set to premiere his audio-visual Luftbobler live AV Show in London this October during the week of Frieze.
Featuring a triptych of screens showing a series of original short films made by Chapman, many created especially for this performance, set to a searing electronic soundtrack, composed and played live by the artist, this mesmerising audio-visual show potently blends horror, black humour and abstraction to enthralling, hypnotic effect.
The event is also set to feature a live set from the other Chapman brother, Jake, with his band Heimlich, as well as DJ sets from Jarvis Cocker & Steve Mackey of Pulp, Trevor Jackson (who follows Actress in remixing Luftbobler’s title track for a forthcoming 12″), Phonica Records and more.
Earlier this year, Dinos Chapman released his debut album, Luftbobler, 13-tracks of electronic music that surprised many with its melodic, ambient soundtracks and pounding techno pulse. Drawing comparisons to Aphex Twin, Throbbing Gristle and Autechre, it was praised by The Guardian, Dazed & Confused, Sunday Times, Boomkat and The Wire, the latter heralding Chapman as the “David Lynch of the dancefloor”.
Consisting of deconstructed tracks from the album, plus new dancefloor-orientated material, re-assembled on the fly, the Luftobler live AV show is an experiment in sound and vision that’s not to be missed.
Support on the night comes from DJs Trevor Jackson, who is remixing the title track from Luftbobler for a forthcoming 12”, Steve Mackey & Jarvis Cocker, Phonica Records and guests. Trevor Jackson’s reversion is the second in the series of Luftobler – Remixed/Remastered 12” released by The Vinyl Factory, and follows a remix by Actress in May.
