“Always…Love Over Gold”
Mississippi Records is a label born out of a shop of the same name in Portland, Oregon. With a history steeped in roots music and underground culture, it’s responsible for some of the most beautiful pieces of music we’ve ever come across.
Spanning over 250 releases on vinyl and cassette with a wide range of music from as equally broad and obscure corners of the globe, some of our particular favourites include the ‘Spiritual Singers’ – African gospel soul from the Congo,’Lipi Codi Ya City Council’ – a wide range of African music recorded between 1967-1972 and the heart rendering ‘I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore’ – a collection of folk songs recorded by US-settled immigrants yearning for home in their native tongue during the 1920-1940’s.
In a world where ‘Record Shop Day’ allows mega-labels to reissue their dreary hits, again, labels like Mississippi serve as a welcome antidote. Eric’s rare DJ appearance will be complimented by his cohorts from London’s Honest Jon’s.
