Grotty, liquid, dark, brutal and lush are all words used to describe the music of 25 year-old Alex Melia aka Reso, such a contrasting set of adjectives are hard to understand but after a listen through his productions, you begin to understand why. A drummer at heart, these natural patterns of “skin hitting” are engrained within his brain and shine through on his digital programming and productions. Reso’s aural identity is a densely layered, high octane tapestry, rich with musical texture and colour which really sets him apart from the minimal sparseness of many of his fellow producers.
Mary Anne Hobbs has been a fervent supporter of the young producer, commissioning a special 20-minute mix for her Radio One show and also appearing on the “Build a beat” special with Civil label mate Starkey. Other strong radio support has come from Rob Da Bank, Mistajamm, Annie Mac and his fan base stretches far and wide with artists such as Pendulum, Noisia, Burial and High contrast all being fervent supporters.
After killer 12inches « If Ya Can’t Beat Em » and « Heavy Arms EP » (both on Civil Music) and a host of remixes with Wiley, the Qemists to Crookers through to Drop The Lime, Reso has kicked of 2010 with a bang. His 2x12inch Temjin EP opened new musical worlds to the wider electronic audience and rewarded the playstation generation, loyal club kids and seasoned steppers who go wild for Reso’s productions already. Reso’s meld of references will draw fans from all realms of the electronic spectrum. Emotive and unique, Reso’s new rhythmic possibilities and perfectly chaotic programming make this essential for fans of Dubstep through Techno to IDM, from Skream to Thom Yorke to Rustie via Bukem.
He is currently finishing his debut album for Civil Music due out in November 2010 and will be touring with a live show in early 2011.
