Raised in the nigh-on mythical environs of Woodstock, NY, Evan ‘Photay’ Shornstein was a drummer in various bands – opening for the likes of The Wailers and Blondie. He would go on to become a student of music at the state’s Purchase College, where he formed the Makoshine Collective with some electronic music obsessed friends. His curiosity took him out to West Africa where he studied drumming techniques and picked up his production name – which means ‘white person’ in the Guinean dialect Susu.
