Rough Trade And The Guardian Launch ‘Tracks Of The Week’
Rough Trade and The Guardian team up to launch weekly music subscription service.
Rough Trade, one of the cornerstones of UK record shop culture, has teamed up with The Guardian to present ‘Tracks of the Week’, a subscription offering users a handpicked selection of the best music doing the rounds each week.
Subscribers will pay £2.99 for the weekly service, and receive six tracks chosen by Rough Trade staff and sent direct to their inbox. Rough Trade co-owner Stephen Godfry explains the concept:
“In this post-digital age, where all music formats are enjoyed together for their respective merits, we’re delighted to offer, in partnership with The Guardian, a music service that offers genuine digital value and excitement for the music lover. Not knowing what you’re going to receive each week replicates the thrilling sense of adventure felt in our offline stores, providing customers a priceless moment of trusted discovery, surprise and joy – characteristics at the heart of any Rough Trade store experience”.
While many record shops have suffered in recent years, Rough Trade has bucked the trend, reporting a sales increase of 8% in the last quarter compared to last year. They also have plans to launch a new branch in Brooklyn, NYC.
