THE PLAYGROUND 3.0
By combining audio, light and 3D projection mapping with force, THE PLAYGROUND experience engages freedom, engulfing all senses without limitations. The momentum plunges you into fearlessness, back from the leap for a free-fall experience from the high-rises of dependability. Saturday 8th September sees THE PLAYGROUND bringing together their strongest line-up yet with PENDULUM, BASSNECTAR (UK DEBUT), ZEDD, HUORATRON, STENCHMAN and a SPECIAL GUEST to be announced soon.
PENDULUM:
As one of the most recognised names in drum n bass today, PENDULUM make a fitting headliner to an already outstanding line-up. Since the release of the ground-breaking ‘Hold Your Colour’ in 2005, PENDULUM became one of the first drum n bass to achieve mainstream popularity. Which lead to a headline performance on Glastonbury’s Dance tent and dozens of other festivals wordwide.
After their second album, ‘In Silico’ PENDULUM became a live band including drums, guitars and keys, giving their sound a more rocky edge and breaking into the alternative scene. Gaining them the mantra of ‘The New Prodigy’. And their latest album ‘Immersion’ became the act’s first #1 album in the UK and preceeded an extensive tour of headline festival shows and arenas.
PENDULUM have since gone on hiatus while vocalist Rob Swire and bassist Gareth McGrillen consentrate on their new project KNIFE PARTY. But the group have announced a new album for 2014 and will continue to rock crowds with their DJ sets the world over.
BASSNECTAR:
BASSNECTAR is the brainchild of Lorin Ashton, and it exists as an open-sourced musical
project that is as diverse as it is heavy, as raw as it is meticulous, and as fierce as it
is imaginary. Spanning the spectrum of sonic style, the music covers every genre
imaginable and smashes it all into a synthesis of intense, wobbling basslines and
hypnotic soundscapes. He has remixed/collaborated with the likes of KRS-ONE, FEVER RAY, DIPLO, DJ VADIM and many others. After a long line of sell-out shows, BASSNECTAR never fails to gather monster crowds on the festival circuit. Some of his most celebrated sets took place at the nation’s top festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, ACL, Bonnaroo, and Ultra Music Festival. Whether
performing at an intimate club or at a major festival, BASSNECTAR energizes audiences
with an experience unlike any other.
HADOUKEN!:
HADOUKEN! have been pushing their sound and maturing musically since the 2008 release of their debut album ‘Music For An Accelerated Culture’. Since then, their sophomore album ‘For The Masses’, produced by NOISIA, gained them international recognition and sent them to festivals round the globe.
Returning with their first single for new label Ministry Of Sound Records on 5th August 2012 “Bad Signal” (produced by up and coming AEPH). Recently Zane Lowe declared, when awarding HADOUKEN! their second ‘Hottest Record In The World’, sounds like they have found their natural home. Their position in bass culture is unique, bringing both the live element and credibility in the electronic music field together to create something unique in Bad Signal.
Earlier this year, HADOUKEN! released “Parasite” in April as a free download. 2Bad Signal” comes backed with radical remixes from three drum n bass and British house leading lights- XILENT, The Prototypes and Wideboys.
ZEDD:
ZEDD (aka Anton Zaslavski), being born into a family of musicians, began playing the piano at the age of four. After several years of learning to master the piano, Anton began playing the drums in a band, and composed and produced numerous rock songs in his band's own studio.
In 2009 he began producing electronic club music, to much and quick acclaim. After a peroid of only a few months he attained a remarkable level and went on to win two Beatport remix contests, the "Armand Van Helden / Strictly Rhythm Remix Contest", and the "Fatboy Slim / Skint Remix Contest"! This was the foundation for Zedd to release several official remixes for artists such as LADY GAGA, BLACK EYED PEAS, P. DIDDY, SKRILLEX and SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA on labels including mau5trap, Interscope, Atlantic and EMI. His hit single "Dovregubben" held the #1 position on Beatport's Electro House charts for four weeks.
One of the reasons for this rapid development is undoubtedly ZEDD's unique and highly recognisable style of composition. It stands out as very detailed and carefully produced Electro House, very playful and at the same time remarkably catchy. ZEDD is definitely an artist to look out for in the future.
HUORATRON:
From the metal-hewn flatlands of Finland comes a dark new force in electronic music. Forged in the electrical fire of industrial; nurtured through the apocalyptic feedback of art rock, experimental
and all things disruptive; and championed by the most influential names in EDM and beyond, HUORATRON is deeper, stranger and harder-core than whatever you thought was before.
HUORATRON came to life in 2003, the brainchild of DJ/producer/mad 8-bit scientist Aku Raski. The bearded one’s beginnings are shadowy, as are his methods: There are reports that he
was discovered at a Nordic metal festival, and that he’s developed a bit of code that mutates a track every time it’s downloaded, making it unique to every individual listener. He once described his
music as “the smell of something burning.”
After signing to Last Gang in 2010, Raski hit the studio, emerging a year later with a flintier glint in his eye, and Cryptocracy, his first full-length album, out April 24. He recently opened for SKRILLEX on his L.A. takeover mini-tour, at the headliner’s behest. Throughout 2012, expect the cacophony and doom of Cryptocracy to take the UK and States by storm.
STENCHMAN
STENCHMAN has been rumbling up-and-down the country for the last few years, spreading his dirty face across the walls of every club as he goes. And we are proud to have him on board at Birth Records.
Created in 1985 by rogue scientists trying to splice the genes of a Fresian cow and a severely impaired young gypsy, the results were controversial to say the least and subsequently the creature they had created escaped, taking with him all of their electronic equipment and pharmaceuticals.
After this, sightings of the strange being became infrequent for a while, word had it that he had built himself a small hut out of discarded batteries and unicorn hair and had locked himself inside with the aforementioned electrical equipment and pharmaceuticals, and was using these to produce a sound called “urgh”.
He had a passion for deep rumbling bass and strange wobbling mid sounds, the frequencies of which would often cause involuntary lactation. After a few years honing his techniques, he decided to come out to graze on the fresh pastures of the outside world, although he refused to be seen in public without a mask, due to self-consciousness about the udders attached to his face.
STENCHMAN is now apparently inflicting his audio assaults on unsuspecting ravers worldwide, making people dance in an animalistic nature to his twisted rhythms and humorous samples.
BIRTH RECORDS hosts room 2 w/ support from PUNX SOUNDCHECK, OBEY!, NOVA, TRI:BAL, LOST BOYS, MAKSIMCZYK, WORM, TINY BONES and stay tuned on theplayground.co.uk for more acts to be announced.
