Red Bull Music Academy presents…
Louche & Jaunt
Sat 28th January
Plan B
Nothing better than a proper good old fashioned January shakedown to keep one warm in winter! Still buzzing from the success of our last sellout event in November with Omar S, the Louche/Jaunt partnership will return this January, for the first in a four part series of Red Bull Music Academy events at Plan B. First up we welcome Julio Bashmore, Shonky, Midland, Braiden & Jane Fitz
Since it’s inception in 1998, Red Bull Music Academy has established itself as one of the most unique projects in music. Each year, the Academy takes over an inner city space, transforming it into a bespoke venue for musical innovation where aspiring music makers from all over the over the world are joined by pioneering legends to learn about everything from music history to technology. Previous lecturers have included Bootsy Collins, Nile Rogers, Carl Craig, Bob Moog, Steve Reich, Erykah Badu and the Mizell Brothers as well as more recent successes such as MIA, Oneohtrix Point Never, Peaches and Magnetic Man’s Skream.
The Academy have all of their fingers and toes very firmly on the pulse, taking great interest in global underground music scenes, popping-up at only the most vital music festivals as well as curating their own legendary events. 2011 saw RBMA present a showcase at Barcelona’s Sonar festival, dominate Notting Hill Carnival with their annual Major Lazer throwdown and take over the London Eye for a music festival in the sky, programming the 30 pods with 30 live gigs and broadcasting to the world via www.redbullmusicacademyradio.com
Julio Bashmore, is a name that if you haven’t heard by now, you must have had your head stuck hard down a toilet.. but even then you would have probably been able to hear the signature Bashmore toms rattling your skull against the U-bend! With one of the most seminal releases of the year, crossover anthem “Battle For Middle You” earned the Bristolian almost instant global recognition. Expect, jaw dropping bass & serious house dubs as Bashmore brings his signature Bristol modulations to South London.
We welcome back French house virtuoso Shonky from Dan Ghenacia’s Lola ED family, fresh from blowing the roof off Mint club with his closing set from Louche’s 4th Birthday in November. Expect to be treated to ruthless grooves, killer basslines, and some real nice obscure psychedelic west coast vinyl.
Midland, after a solid stint in Leeds living with one of bass music’s men of the moment, Ramadanman, has been busy making waves aplenty, already with a signature style that blurs the lines between bass music, techno and house. Add a handful of some of the falls hottest releases, a move to London, and more tracks due on Will Saul’s on point label AUS and 2012 looks like its gonna be a pretty good year for the young producer.
Holding it down in the basement will be East London DJ, promoter and music journalist Jane Fitz. Djing since the nineties in London and her old home Hong Kong, Jane has always shown a natural aptitude to house music of all kinds. She’s taken this passion for the music we all love around the globe, from Watergate to Free Rotation Festival as well as delivering one of the standout Louche podcasts of the year; if you’ve not heard her play before you’re in for a treat.
They’ll be joined by Rinse FM talent and Red Bull Music Academy graduate Braiden. Whether it’s playing the latest future garage and funky over three decks or scouring Berlin’s dancefloors in search of some undiscovered glitch or disco-infused gems to weave into his expansive sets, Braiden continues to deliver on the hype whilst keeping that element of surprise.
This time we step out of the warehouses and take the celebrations south of the river to one of our favourite venues in London, Brixton’s most majestic party destination, Plan B. A 500 capacity gem complete with Funktion 1 sound in two acoustically treated rooms with a raw, stripped back interior. Expect intimate vibes and a serious soundsystem! Red Bull Music Academy presents Louche & Jaunt with Julio Bashmore, Shonky, Midland, Braiden & Jane Fitz.

The undisputed Godfather of the electronic beats scene, DJ Krush, celebrates 20 years since his first ever live gig with a very special 3 hour set sure to delight his legion of fans!
DJ Krush’s importance as a music producer cannot be underestimated and without him some of the biggest artists Soundcrash puts on would simply not exist, at least in their present form. He single-handedly turned Hip Hop and Turntablism into an artform by virtue of his immaculate sample selection, clever use of effects and sensational scratching routines. Eschewing the extravagant I-can-scratch-faster-than-you pissing contests of his American counterparts, rejecting the purist notion that jazz cannot exist outside traditional live instruments, and applying a very Japanese sense of minimalism, balance and progression to his compositions, DJ Krush set the tone for the following 20 years of electronic music production. But despite this enormous influence, DJ Krush has always been a live performer at heart, honing his skills to perfection throughout the years and now capable of building layer after layer after layer of drum samples to the point where his audience have no choice but to completely lose it and immerse themselves fully in the wonderful, dark, and downright genius world of DJ Krush.
In every good beat worth its salt in the past 20 years there is a bit of DJ Krush. In the really good ones, there is a lot. And tonight, we get 3 hours straight from the source. It’s time to celebrate.
