Jimmy Edgar
A year on from that memorable much talked about party of last New Years Day which saw MCDE, Move D, Trusme, Wbeeza, Bicep and the Boys taking the nest on a wild ride for 12 hours of debauched intensity and Love Fever are here to do it all again.
2011 saw Alex & Andy push the boundaries of their infamous discotheque deeper into the abyss with sleazy valentines day warehouses, chic photographic studios for what RA claimed was the party of the year back in july, an over the top house party saying farewell to that naughty kingsland road den, cheeky ibiza jaunts, a weekend in berlin that defies description… and most recently settling their brand of erotic house and disco into their very own private space in hackney wick for a new era in london club romanticism.
2012 NYD at the nest is set to be the perfect remedy for the crudeness of the night before or for carrying on the decadence. The nest provides some creature comforts that a warehouse cant provide that we think New Years Day raving requires, (lets face it nobody wants flooded toilets and warm booze on NYD) right in the heart of Dalston and open for 12 hours of fun and frivolity. The sound system will be tweaked, balloons hung, love heart lofted and the boys have yet again pulled it out of the bag with Jimmy Edgar, FCL and expect some very special guest in keeping with the pedigree of last year!
here go again. o ohhhh!
‘make love in public spaces’
Jaded’s post New Year shenanigans are the stuff of legend, and this year you’ve got the chance to join the party not once but twice! The second chance to dance falls on Monday January 2nd – when all the fly by night NYE clubbers have long gone and only the true Jaded faithful remain! Dario Zenker, Unai Trotti and Alex Cliché join Raymundo Rodriguez as they open both rooms for an extra special afterhours extravaganza.

Norman Jay MBE @ The Westbury
Friday 3rd February
Norman Jay MBE is arguably one of the finest and most respected DJ’s in the world today. Whether it’s playing upfront disco fuelled funky house in the nations main rooms and festivals or his much vaunted old skool jazzfunk, hip hop or chilled out beats in the back, he still manages to inject his rich musical heritage and quality in every set he plays.
Famous for his Good Times Parties and sensational feel good sets, he returns to The Westbury for his 2012 debut. ’Nuff said.

Sunship

Local Authority
Swimsuit Crew
Streets Of Beige start the year in fine form with a bass and garage special featuring UKG legends Sunship. With a backlog of incredible work that includes timeless solo material, and production credits from Mis-Teeq to Sweet Female Attitude, Sunship were true innovators in garage and bass, and their sound is still vital in 2012.
My Panda Shall Fly has a knack for digging forgotten and classic cuts alike, and he’ll be putting this skill to work at his first ever Rhythm Factory appearance, as well as dropping some of his own fine production.
Another young support comes in the shape of BNRY, a fast-rising local with a production sensibility that spans staggered bass, Chicago house and Berlin techno, and whose live set hammers as hard as his studio work.
As resident and curator of GetMe, Lixo has hosted and played alongside a spectrum of talent including Trim, Marcus Nasty, Sampha, The XX, Sinden SBTRKT, Alex Nut, Oneman, Warrior Queen and tons more, as well as holding down heavy sets and residencies at many of London’s key venues.
Forward-thinking electronic music blogger and Youtube channel Local Authority House join residents Swimsuit Crew in bookending the night with some deeper sounds and slower tempos.

Our friends at Red Bull Studios have put together a moody and minimal bill for all the bass heads out there. We’ll be welcoming London duo Instra:mental into our basement brickwork for the first time, a production collaboration that garnered much deserved, across the board support after their FABRICLIVE release alongside dBridge in 2010.
As much at home playing alongside the likes of Shy FX and MJ Cole as they are Martyn, Pearson Sound and Untold, Instra:mental’s dnb come techno come garage output brings something fresh and invigorating to the scene with every release. They will be joined by the Numbers imprint’s rising star, Redinho, whose 1-track limited edition ‘Stay Together’ release this month pre-empts a much awaited debut album from the musician scheduled for next year. Krystal Klear, an artist whose skilful blend of 80s analogue grooves and punch-packing, Rustie-esque energy completes the bill.

The Nest presents Rustie + Melé
Friday 13th January
With arguably the most progressive and exciting debut album of the year, Rustie’s demonic strain of neon bright, irresistibly rich synth work and hip hop hulk has been sending dance floors into a spin over the past 6 months. The limelight shy Glaswegian makes up for his coyness in each and every DJ set with an in-your-face glimpse into his computer game fantasies and rnb soundtracked dreamscapes. Rustie is joined by 2011’s most exuberant selector, Melé, an artist whose interesting take on the UK’s genre blending bass trend sees him mix jungle, dubstep, house, hip hop and grime in one seamlessly skilful swoop. Stripes and Toy C are two hotly tipped artists for the New Year and their garage inflected, bass focused house music has seen recent releases on Body Work and Mimm Records respectively.
Live support comes in the form of pop encased dubstep outfit (with killer female vocals) Tricity and the lady behind the beautiful vocals on a collection of Falty DL, Starkey and Ital Tek productions, Anneka.

Making music that charms a warped early morning dance floor is relatively easy if you know how – doing that whilst retaining musical elegance and expertise however, is something quite different. Producer and Live artist James What appears to have mastered the two, and his Live Shows, projects with Dan Berkson and continuous stream of highly lauded releases play testament.
James What laid routes in London in 1999 to study music and sound engineering, he has since gone on to make and release his solo, moniker and collaborative music on some of the industry’s most recognized labels such as Pokerflat, Crosstown Rebels, Murmur and Dessous.
In 2006 James joined forces with fellow producer Dan Berkson; a partnership that has since propelled the two to new musical levels. Debuting at Sonar in 2006 Dan Berkson and James What continue to perform their captivating Live sets around the world; casting light on their solid yet emotive and improvised soundscapes.
Continually progressing and evolving as an artist, James currently divides his time between an international gig schedule, solo and collaborative production and touring with Dan Berkson. James’s recent ‘About Love’ ep on Crosstown Rebels met rave reviews and regularly penetrates the ever beating depths of the scenes night life. His unique sound sits within a mix of raw classic house and the shrewd darkness of gruff minimal and techno; complimenting their counterparts and flitting effortlessly between the three. Based in London and working worldwide, James What is playing the balance game with a winning streak; stripped down, head strong dance music that effortlessly retains sensual warmth and timeless elegance.

Marc Romboy
Electronic music with a certain piece of soul – reminiscent of old school Chicago/Detroit dance floor insanity – is Marc Romboy’s true passion. Working in electronic music for over almost two decades, Romboy has co-founded and built internationally respected labels and projects, never tiring of coming up with fresh and innovative ideas to push the limits of electronic dance sounds.

Ramon Tapia
Ramon Tapia alias El Carlitto, son of a Chilean musician who had to run from his home country as he stood up against the regime, and a Dutch woman who was brave enough to fall in love, is a funny character, a very ambitious one: No one would have guessed he, the young jeweler working behind the counter of an Antwerp record shop, would one day release records on labels as renowned as Soma Rec,Remote Area , Turbo Rec, 100% Pure, Great Stuff, Intacto and of course not to forget his own label ( Aella Music ) that he runs together with Hermanez . But he does! And he does not stop there! With remixes for Mauro Picotto , Silicon Soul, DJ Sneak , Ni Fanciulli , Armand van Helden and many more under his belt, things are looking more than good for the energetic player.

The Nest presents Tiger & Woods (LIVE) + Psychemagik + Bicep
Friday 20th January
Self-coined ‘future boogie’ producers, Tiger & Woods, are celebrated members of the disco and funk-tinged new school that seem to have taken over main rooms and festival tents all over the world this year. Red Bull Music Academy alumni with a debut, industry buzzed album cannot help but become global stars of the electronic spectrum and The Nest is more than lucky to host a headline LIVE set from the duo.
Hailing from ‘The Cosmic Forest’, Psychemagik’s lush, deliriously disco electronica has garnered support from the likes of Annie Nightingale, Lauren Laverne and Rob Da Bank over the past 12 months. Their sonic artistry goes above and beyond the realms of a simple mp3 as the duo attempt to express their ethereal, pantheistic take on dance music, as demonstrated on their debut bespoke white label release. Support comes in the form of bloggers come producers Bicep (who are set to release on Will Saul’s Aus Music imprint in 2012) and scene documenters, the Slutty Fringe DJs.
Parisian electronic live duo, The Penelopes, have been backed and celebrated on the French underground for a number of years. Coming to the capital for some high profile collaborations, their output of elastic basslines, lush keyboards and funky guitar riffs is sure to garner household status over the next few months.

Red Bull Music Academy presents…
Louche & Jaunt
Sat 28th January
Plan B
Nothing better than a proper good old fashioned January shakedown to keep one warm in winter! Still buzzing from the success of our last sellout event in November with Omar S, the Louche/Jaunt partnership will return this January, for the first in a four part series of Red Bull Music Academy events at Plan B. First up we welcome Julio Bashmore, Shonky, Midland, Braiden & Jane Fitz
Since it’s inception in 1998, Red Bull Music Academy has established itself as one of the most unique projects in music. Each year, the Academy takes over an inner city space, transforming it into a bespoke venue for musical innovation where aspiring music makers from all over the over the world are joined by pioneering legends to learn about everything from music history to technology. Previous lecturers have included Bootsy Collins, Nile Rogers, Carl Craig, Bob Moog, Steve Reich, Erykah Badu and the Mizell Brothers as well as more recent successes such as MIA, Oneohtrix Point Never, Peaches and Magnetic Man’s Skream.
The Academy have all of their fingers and toes very firmly on the pulse, taking great interest in global underground music scenes, popping-up at only the most vital music festivals as well as curating their own legendary events. 2011 saw RBMA present a showcase at Barcelona’s Sonar festival, dominate Notting Hill Carnival with their annual Major Lazer throwdown and take over the London Eye for a music festival in the sky, programming the 30 pods with 30 live gigs and broadcasting to the world via www.redbullmusicacademyradio.com
Julio Bashmore, is a name that if you haven’t heard by now, you must have had your head stuck hard down a toilet.. but even then you would have probably been able to hear the signature Bashmore toms rattling your skull against the U-bend! With one of the most seminal releases of the year, crossover anthem “Battle For Middle You” earned the Bristolian almost instant global recognition. Expect, jaw dropping bass & serious house dubs as Bashmore brings his signature Bristol modulations to South London.
We welcome back French house virtuoso Shonky from Dan Ghenacia’s Lola ED family, fresh from blowing the roof off Mint club with his closing set from Louche’s 4th Birthday in November. Expect to be treated to ruthless grooves, killer basslines, and some real nice obscure psychedelic west coast vinyl.
Midland, after a solid stint in Leeds living with one of bass music’s men of the moment, Ramadanman, has been busy making waves aplenty, already with a signature style that blurs the lines between bass music, techno and house. Add a handful of some of the falls hottest releases, a move to London, and more tracks due on Will Saul’s on point label AUS and 2012 looks like its gonna be a pretty good year for the young producer.
Holding it down in the basement will be East London DJ, promoter and music journalist Jane Fitz. Djing since the nineties in London and her old home Hong Kong, Jane has always shown a natural aptitude to house music of all kinds. She’s taken this passion for the music we all love around the globe, from Watergate to Free Rotation Festival as well as delivering one of the standout Louche podcasts of the year; if you’ve not heard her play before you’re in for a treat.
They’ll be joined by Rinse FM talent and Red Bull Music Academy graduate Braiden. Whether it’s playing the latest future garage and funky over three decks or scouring Berlin’s dancefloors in search of some undiscovered glitch or disco-infused gems to weave into his expansive sets, Braiden continues to deliver on the hype whilst keeping that element of surprise.
This time we step out of the warehouses and take the celebrations south of the river to one of our favourite venues in London, Brixton’s most majestic party destination, Plan B. A 500 capacity gem complete with Funktion 1 sound in two acoustically treated rooms with a raw, stripped back interior. Expect intimate vibes and a serious soundsystem! Red Bull Music Academy presents Louche & Jaunt with Julio Bashmore, Shonky, Midland, Braiden & Jane Fitz.

The undisputed Godfather of the electronic beats scene, DJ Krush, celebrates 20 years since his first ever live gig with a very special 3 hour set sure to delight his legion of fans!
DJ Krush’s importance as a music producer cannot be underestimated and without him some of the biggest artists Soundcrash puts on would simply not exist, at least in their present form. He single-handedly turned Hip Hop and Turntablism into an artform by virtue of his immaculate sample selection, clever use of effects and sensational scratching routines. Eschewing the extravagant I-can-scratch-faster-than-you pissing contests of his American counterparts, rejecting the purist notion that jazz cannot exist outside traditional live instruments, and applying a very Japanese sense of minimalism, balance and progression to his compositions, DJ Krush set the tone for the following 20 years of electronic music production. But despite this enormous influence, DJ Krush has always been a live performer at heart, honing his skills to perfection throughout the years and now capable of building layer after layer after layer of drum samples to the point where his audience have no choice but to completely lose it and immerse themselves fully in the wonderful, dark, and downright genius world of DJ Krush.
In every good beat worth its salt in the past 20 years there is a bit of DJ Krush. In the really good ones, there is a lot. And tonight, we get 3 hours straight from the source. It’s time to celebrate.
