Hyp 056: Buffalo Tide
Tracing the line between classic mid-90s electronica, experimental inversions by the likes of Shackleton, and his own take on the current bass sounds emanating from across the UK, Oliver’s latest ‘Arabia’ EP saw him garner support from Mary Anne Hobbs as his sublimely atmospheric production work came to fruition across 4 tracks of wistful electronic orechestration.
His Hyponik mix sees the Canada native travel through a range of influences and current interests, heading for roads not normally travelled in our series. From Alice Coltrane, Mogwai and Prefuse 73, to the bustling energy of The Mars Volta and Clams Casino, the mix manages to represent all that you hear in Buffalo Tide’s own music (much of which is featured here), and then some.
